Instagram is a social networking platform that enables users to communicate with one another via the sharing of photographs and videos. Threads’ visionis to take what Instagram does best and apply that to text, thus providing an environment that is encouraging of creative expression and conducive to sharing one’s ideas.

A fresh approach to communicating via text

The Instagram team has developed a new app called Threads, which allows users to share text updates and participate in public conversations.

The Instagram account is used to log in, and postings can be up to 500 characters long and include links, photographs, and videos that are up to 5 minutes long.

The team is now working on making Threads compatible with open and interoperable social networks, which we feel have the potential to have a significant impact on the future of the internet.

Users are able to publish a Thread, view your feed, and interact with the Threads posted by other users thanks to the updated logged-in experience on the web. The team is putting in a lot of effort to make this experience on par with that of mobile devices, and they will be adding additional features to the web version.

You can follow and connect with friends and creators who share your interests on Threads, just like you can on Instagram. This includes both the individuals you already follow on Instagram as well as new people you discover.

meteoric increase at a certain time period

Threads, the app that is the Meta Platform’s response to the platform that was formerly known as Twitter, did not maintain the initial frenzy of excitement for very long. At the beginning of July, Threads experienced a massive launch, which was propelled by the nearly instantaneous onboarding of Instagram users to the brand new text-based social platform.

However, the surge in the number of active users of Threads did not continue for very long. During the initial couple of days of the app’s release, when new users were busy checking out the app and seeing who else was on it, the number of active users skyrocketed. However, this trend quickly reversed itself.

According to estimations provided by Similarweb, the number of people using the Threads Android app on a daily basis reached a high of 49.3 million on July 7. On the other hand, the number of the app’s daily active users dropped to 10.3 million on August 7.

To put that into perspective, X has more than 100 million daily active users on Android alone, and they spend an average of roughly 25 minutes per day using the app.

Users, for instance, won’t be able to change their profiles or send threads to the direct message feature of its sister site, Instagram. Neither of these actions will be possible. Meta claims that it will add more functionality in the following weeks in order to achieve its goal of making the experience of using the app on the web and mobile devices identical.

Threads initially appeared in an extremely simplified format due to a decision made by Meta.

Users who checked out the site after its much-hyped introduction and were expecting it to be a ready-to-go alternative to its competitor Twitter have reported feeling upset as a result of this.

These figures do not indicate that Threads will not be successful in the long run; rather, it is suggested that its “overnight success” was too good to be true.
